Following the Prophet’s Example

Friday is a special day in Islam, and the Prophet ﷺ taught us certain Sunnah acts to make the most of it. Doing these brings us closer to Allah and earns great rewards.

1. Take a bath (Ghusl):
Before going for Jumu’ah prayer, take a bath to stay clean and fresh.

2. Wear clean clothes and apply perfume:
The Prophet ﷺ liked wearing clean clothes and applying a pleasant fragrance on Fridays.

3. Go early to the Masjid:
Reaching early for Jumu’ah prayer shows eagerness to worship. Each step taken to the Masjid earns reward.

4. Recite Surah Al-Kahf:
It is Sunnah to recite Surah Al-Kahf on Friday. This brings light and guidance until the next Friday.

5. Increase Dhikr and Salawat:
Spend time remembering Allah (dhikr) by saying:

  • SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah)

  • Alhamdulillah (All praise is for Allah)

  • Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)

  • La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)
Also, send blessings on the Prophet ﷺ frequently:

  • Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad

6. Make Du’a during the special hour:
There is a blessed time on Friday when Allah accepts prayers. Scholars say it is likely between Asr and Maghrib.

7. Listen to the Khutbah:
When the Imam is giving the Friday sermon, listen quietly and attentively.
